At the beginning of psychotherapy, we work together to identify your goals for treatment, and create an individualized plan that integrates the tools and treatments best suited to your needs. I provide individual psychotherapy for adolescents and adults, and utilize an eclectic treatment approach that includes EMDR, behavioral, mindfulness and interpersonal therapy. I specialize in treatment of depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, as well as various traumatic events and PTSD.
Trauma is often the result of an overwhelming amount of stress that exceeds one’s ability to cope, or integrate the emotions involved with that experience. EMDR is an effective way of resolving trauma and making it part of one’s past. So many of us struggle to feel connected to ourselves, others, and the world around us, often as the result of trauma, but healing from trauma requires particularly sensitive and skilled care. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a research-based therapy that helps get traumatic memories unstuck, gently shifting trauma-based beliefs about ourselves and the world into more adaptive perspectives. EMDR can help not only with major traumatic events so called Big T reaumas such as abuse and assault but also the "Small t" traumas such as break ups or being let go from a job, that left us with negative beliefs about ourselves or other people. Instead of being defined by our past, we can authentically integrate those experiences within our life story and move on to live a more fulfilling, authentic and connected life.
Based on neuroscientific research, the Trauma Resiliency Model teaches you skills to regulate your own nervous system, empowering you to face your trauma in a new and powerful way.
Using practical skills and somatic therapy techniques, the Trauma Resiliency Model helps you re-establish a sense of safety in your own body, restoring a sense of peace and vitality.
Using TRM will help you develop greater resiliency and restore balance in your body and mind after traumatic experiences by walking you through the steps you can take to rebalance your nervous system and feel like yourself again.
When we begin to understand that our trauma symptoms are normal, that is, they are natural biological responses to traumatic events, there is a paradigm shift in which we begin to understand there’s nothing wrong with.
When we learn that our symptoms are natural and biological, we no longer have to view ourselves as “weak” when we’re suffering (which just adds insult to injury.)
Normalizing traumatic symptoms allows us to move away from self-blame and shame and towards healing.

In CBT, you learn to identify, question and change the thoughts, attitudes and beliefs related to the emotional and behavioural reactions that cause you difficulty in various aspects of your life.
By monitoring and recording thoughts during upsetting situations, people learn that how they think can contribute to emotional problems such as depression and anxiety. CBT helps to reduce these emotional problems by teaching clients to:

identify distortions in their thinking

see thoughts as ideas about what is going on, rather than as facts

stand back from their thinking to consider situations from different viewpoints.
Mindfulness. It’s a pretty straightforward word. It suggests that the mind is fully attending to what’s happening, to what you’re doing, to the space you’re moving through. That might seem trivial, except for the fact that we so often veer from the present moment. Our mind takes flight, we lose touch with our body, and pretty soon we’re engrossed in distressing thoughts about something that just happened or fworry about the future. And that can make us feel anxious or depressed.
Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.
Yet no matter how far we drift away, mindfulness is right there to snap us back to where we are and what we’re doing and feeling.
